ceramics
(2020/4)

001                                    Making ceramics is a joyful process for me, it its the tactility and instantaneous responsiveness of the clay that allows for playful creation. I have been practicing my technique on the potters wheel creating different vessels and plates

 002
The white bowl is my newest creation

003                                    Inspired by chawan (茶碗), and more specifically the 'shino-ware' (志野焼) tea bowls, I created my own variation of the vessel, applying the glaze thickly to imitate this snowy evelope with piercings of its exposed flesh.

004                                    This was my first successful attempt a throwing on the wheel, it is made from scrap  earthenware clay, but it has been glazed with a rich brown glaze, coated in various manganese oxides

005                                   Once I had began to become more confident at throwing at the wheel, I decided to undertake the challenge of trying to make stackable or identical vessels to be made as part of a set. I created some bowls and a spice set. The bowls are decorated in a mustard and white glaze.

006                                   Getting more confident with smaller vessels, I decided to start making pots. I experimented with different forms and shapes; some with lips, others with recessed spouts. All glazed in manganese glaze reminiscent of the tenmoku (灰被天目) glaze
